RTV1

The Rocket Test Vehicle 1 (RTV1) came into service circa 1949 and was based
on a British rocket that had been developed from a set of design
proposals for an anti-aircraft system during World War 2 code named LOPGAP (Liquid Oxygen and Petrol Guided Anti-aircraft Projectile).

The RTV 1 became one of the first rockets to be fired at the Woomera Rocket Range in South Australia. While originally built in the UK, many of the evolved visions of the rocket came to be constructed in Australia.

RTV 1 tests at Woomera were used to evaluate some of the many aspects of
missile technology development, particularly the ability to have a missile guided
onto a target using radar.

Having successfully completed the many programme objectives, RTV 1
production was to be eventually terminated around 1956.
